Unloading your old iPhone

Are you wondering what to do with your old 2G Iphone? Here is an option. IPHONESWAP.com will take your old phone and give you cash for it. Their website says they will give you $350.00 for a 16b, $250.00 for a 8gb and $150.00 for a 4gb all in used condition. I wonder what they will give for my 4gb with the dented case and car tire tracks on the back. The prices include free shipping because they will send you the shipping label. You may want to take a look at this but do some research. You may be able to get more for your phone on craigslist for ebay do to the fact that the 3G phones ar hard to get now. Some people may be fine with the old 2G model.

Where have all the iPhones gone?

Where did all the iPhones go. I have a friend who is looking for a new 3G and there are none to be had. We check the apple store every night on the web and all the Michigan stores show that there will be no phones available the next day. I bet you can get a pretty penny for one if you have it via ebay or craigslist. My kids are having a ball with my old 2g iPhone. They have Tap Tap and Monkey ball installed on it and use it like a Nintendo DS. They call it the iPhone touch. The phone no longer works but everything else is good to go just like an iPod touch but with a few dents from 12 months of use and a run in with a car tire. Oh well. I love my 3G.

No Cut and Paste

One of the first things I searched for on my new iPhone 3G was cut and paste. It is no where to be found. I guess it was not high up on the list of priorities when Apple developed the new phone. I guess I will have to continue writing numbers down, and memorizing things from emails until I can put them in a note or a new email. I am happy that the new phone will take standard headphones because it does not have a recessed jack like the old iPhone. The phone came with a power plug but not a dock. I figured I would use the dock from the old phone. Red light! The new phone does not fit in the old dock. It is close but won't sit down enough to make contact and charge the phone. I went to the Apple store and they sell a new dock for $30.00. I think I am going to have to get the drill out and modify the old dock before I give up that cash. It does come with a little tool that I believe is to open the sim card door. I don't recall getting that with the old phone. Too bad the phone still will not take a memory card. You can't have it all.

The Iphone 3G has a plastic back and is rounder than the old phone. I think the sound quality on calls is better and the speaker appears to be louder. My old phone dropped a lot more calls for sure. I am not sure if that was a result of getting run over by a car when I left it on the trunk of my car one morning. More on that later, but also a good reason to keep the metal back instead of going with the new plastice one. The volume buttons and ringer on off button have gone from plastic to metal. The battery on the new phone does not last as long. I think that is related to the use of the 3G network. Call me crazy but I swear the new headphone cord is shorter. I went to the gym this morning and the cord was bouncing all over the place due to the lack of slack. I am going to measure it tonight and get back to you on this issue. PC Magazine has a very good review on the new phone so check it out.

My New iPhone 3G

Last Friday I got up at 5:30 am and went to the gym to work out. I was done a little before 7 so I decided to drive by the local At&T store and see what was going on with the iPhone line. I was expecting about 20 people in line but it was closer to 40. I through caution to the wind and jumped in the line with my funky gym clothes on. I met a nice young newly wed couple and they informed of their plan to get two phones. He had to go to work so they talked the store rep outside to let her buy both phones since he had already verified that she was not alone. They groom kissed is wife and headed to work as soon as the doors opened. He thought his phone was secure. He was wrong. We got right to the door after about one hour and a rep came out and informed us all that they were out of 8gb and 16gb phones. I was two spots away from glory. Oh well. I jumped in my ride and headed home for a much needed shower. Later that night I checked the apple web site for my local apple store and saw green dots for 8gb and 16gb phones available the next day. I arrived at a little after 7am on Saturday and once again stood in line. This time I was about number 20 in line and after about 30 minutes an apple rep came out, determined what phone we were looking for and gave us a white card to turn in when we gained entry to the store. I did notice one bizarre sight. A manager went up and down the line answering questions and wherever she went a security guard followed her. I can only imagine what activity from the day before prompted that.

At 8:57 the doors opened to the Apple store and I was granted access with the first wave of 20 customers. We were greeted by two lines of friendly employees with high fives and loud cheering. I handed my card over to a nice young lady and off she went to get my phone. I ran into a few minor problems because I wanted to pay cash and also because my AT&T account had discounts but we worked it out and after about 1 hour in the store I walked out with my new activated iPhone in my hand and my old iPhone in the fancy apple bag they gave me.

I am very happy with the new 3g phone. It is faster for sure and the GPS rocks. I really like the new software I have been downloading like AOL radio and Urbanspoon and Boxoffice. I have mine and I have two words for you. Get some!
